Design & Make

The iPad can be used as a tool to support play, learning and development in the early years. The iPad can made available to students to document their own play in a dramatisation of a fairytale, for example. Rather than simply video record the event, the iPad is used to collect, and organize all of the photographs to co-construct a stop-motion animation using software such as Slowmation (Fleer, 2013). Miniature objects can be used to re-create their favourite play scene or to demonstrate their understandings of what they have been investigating throughout an inquiry cycle. Students can then share their production to others in the class or across classes; or emailed. It can then be loaded on a memory stick for parents to view.
